Start with the direction of the words.

Easy word searches place words across and down, without backward spellings. Medium adds diagonal words. Hard allows all directions, including backwards. These settings describe how words are placed; they do not measure someone’s ability. Try a few words before deciding whether a setting feels comfortable.

Shorter lists can feel more inviting.

Our generator uses up to 18 words. To make a gentle first puzzle, use eight to twelve familiar words and an easy setting. Short words and a clear theme make it simpler to recognise what you are searching for. A longer list, unfamiliar vocabulary, and diagonal directions can all increase the challenge.

Keep help close by.

Include the answer key when printing, but keep it out of sight until it is needed. During online play, tap the first and then the last letter of a word. If a word feels impossible to spot, take a short break or look for an unusual letter. The goal is an enjoyable activity, and it is fine to change the setting or work together.
